A while back, around the time of the Presidential election, an acquaintance forwarded me an email rant which I guess was supposed to be funny. It was about the Blue States seceding from the nation. Point being that the Blue states had most of the physical and intellectual capital, while the Red States had the BBQ joints and the Single Moms.
WTF? You did just say Single Mom (yes, it was capitalized like that!) and not Crack Ho? ‘Cause I really don’t see that single momdom is really the anathema that this email implied. At least not in the 21st century in a country where we don’t stone women to death for having sex! And in a time and place where women can get an education and a job and be self supporting and financially and professionally successful.
But hey, you liberal Blue State fan who wrote that inane email! Were you trying to imply that not only am I worthless for not having a man, but my child is too? And you don’t want us living in your brave new world? ‘Cause that would be just fine with me.
But in that case, can I take your Presidential candidate with me too? ‘Cause I think that Barack’s mom and dad were divorced and she spent at least some time raising him on her own before she remarried. And it seems, though I haven’t researched it, that Bill Clinton’s mom was a single parent. At least in one of his speeches to a group of factory workers he talks about how tired she was when she came home from work at night and didn’t have enough energy to spend time with him. Damn those single parent families! This one dared to produce the leader of the free world!
And hey, what about Joe Biden too? He totally jerked some tears talking about the trials and tribulations of being a single parent. His big introduction to the nation was the story of being sworn in to his first major political office at the hospital bedside of his son after a tragic car accident took the life of his wife. What a total loser to let his wife get killed like that! Joe! Don’t you know you are sending the country straight to the dogs?
Or was the author of the missive in question only referring to the Single Mom phenomena? Single Dads are ok, Single Moms not? ‘Cause of course the women would be living in the projects like Welfare Queens and the guys wouldn’t? Of course! I was so stupid not to see it, because I totally forgot that being a liberal means you have to be a rampant misogynistic sexist as well. Duh! How stupid of me, but then I’m a Single Mom, so what did ya expect?
